*Important Change in Environmental Committee*

The Indian government has introduced a significant development in response to a Supreme Court order. They have established a permanent "Central Empowered Committee" dedicated to environmental issues.

Here's the backstory: In 2002, the Supreme Court directed that the committee would include a chairman nominated by the ministry, in consultation with Amicus Curiae and two NGOs.

However, the recent notification has removed NGOs from the committee. Instead, all members, including the chairman, will now be nominated solely by the Ministry of Environment. The notification also underscores that the central government holds the ultimate decision-making authority. This marks a departure from the previous oversight by the Supreme Court.

This change may have implications for NGOs ( especially SOROS Funded) eagerly anticipating funding for environmental projects.
