Newborn loses 5 fingers in operation sans parents’ consent

A Chennai hospital and gynaecologist have been held liable for negligence after a premature baby lost all five fingers on his right hand to gangrene. The district consumer disputes redressal commission found that a cervical pessary procedure, performed without informed consent or adequate justification, triggered a chain of events leading to the baby's premature birth and subsequent complications.
