CJI B.R. Gavai pledged to vacate his official residence promptly after retirement, in contrast to the delayed departure of former CJI D.Y. Chandrachud. This follows a recent controversy where the Supreme Court administration requested the Union Housing Ministry to reclaim the bungalow occupied by Justice Chandrachud, who cited difficulties in finding suitable housing for his daughters with medical needs.
