Take 'preemptive measures' to protect vulnerable people from heat: NHRC to 11 states

The National Human Rights Commission has urged authorities nationwide to protect vulnerable populations from rising heatwave dangers. Citing NCRB data showing 3,798 heat-related deaths between 2018 and 2022, the NHRC has directed 11 states, including Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra, to implement preemptive measures. These include providing shelters, adjusting work hours, and ensuring treatment for heat illnesses.
