Brown, MIT lead lawsuit against US government over sweeping science funding cuts
Posted
Brown University and MIT, joined by 10 other institutions, have filed a lawsuit against the NSF to stop a new 15% cap on indirect research funding. The plaintiffs argue the cuts, which affect billions in grants, threaten US scientific leadership and innovation. Brown also faces a separate $510 million federal funding freeze amid allegations of campus antisemitism. Higher education leaders warn these policies could undermine research, cause layoffs, and shift financial burdens to students, as reported by the Boston Globe.
