Farhan Akhtar's debut film, Dil Chahta Hai, faced initial casting hurdles when actors declined roles. Akshaye Khanna was the first to agree, initially for Aakash's part. Aamir Khan later expressed interest but wanted to play Aakash and requested a Hindi script. Akshaye graciously agreed to play Sid, allowing Aamir to take on the role of Aakash.
