US wholesale prices fall in April despite tariffs, biggest drop in five years

US wholesale prices saw an unexpected drop in April. This marks the first monthly decline in over a year. The producer price index fell 0.5% from March. Core wholesale prices also decreased. A sharp drop in services prices contributed to the decline. Many economists had anticipated upward pressure on prices due to tariffs by President Trump.
