Gopalkrishna Gandhi, distinguished professor at Ashoka University and a prolific writer, gives us a glimpse of the work that went into creating his memoir 'The Undying Light: A Personal History of Independent India'. Gandhi sets the conversation in motion by highlighting the unique place of the Constitution and its lyrical Preamble — especially noting the resonance found in regional translations such as 'Vayam Bharatasya jana' in Sanskrit and 'hum Hind ki avam' in Urdu, which he feels carried 'an extraordinary lyrical voltage'
