UK court puts last-minute block on a deal to hand Chagos islands to Mauritius
Posted
A British court halted the U.K.'s planned transfer of sovereignty over the Chagos Islands to Mauritius just hours before the signing. The agreement, which included a leaseback of the Diego Garcia naval base, faced a last-minute legal challenge from displaced islanders who claim they were not consulted. This injunction has put the entire deal on hold.
