Cypriots rush to save Sanna, a language with just 900 speakers left
Posté
In Cyprus, a language called Cypriot Maronite Arabic, or Sanna, faces extinction, with only 900 speakers remaining. Originating from Syrian Arabic and containing traces of Aramaic, the language was brought to Cyprus by Arab Christians centuries ago. Now, the Maronite community, with support from the government and the EU, is working to revitalize Sanna through schools, textbooks, and language classes.
