SC: HCs cannot suo motu enhance sentence of convict
نشر بتاريخ
The Supreme Court has declared that high courts cannot increase a convict's punishment during an appeal against their conviction. This ruling came in a case where a man, initially convicted of house trespass and outraging modesty, had his sentence enhanced by the Madras High Court to include abetment of suicide after he appealed the trial court's decision.
