Ahmedabad plane crash: Pilot issued Mayday call before crash; what is it, and when is it issued?

An Air India flight AI171, en route from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick, tragically crashed shortly after takeoff on June 12, 2025. The pilot, Captain Sumeet Sabharwal, issued a Mayday call before the Boeing 787, carrying 242 individuals, lost contact with air traffic control.
