Initially, the England and Wales Cricket Board planned to rename the Pataudi Trophy to the Tendulkar-Anderson Trophy, but faced criticism. Sachin Tendulkar himself intervened, advocating for the Pataudi name's preservation. ICC chairman Jay Shah also played a role in the trophy retaining its name.
