Elphinstone College, established in 1856 in South Mumbai, fostered Mumbai's higher education system. Originating from the Bombay Native Education Society in 1824, it was named after Governor Mountstuart Elphinstone. This college nurtured prominent figures like B. R. Ambedkar and Dadabhai Naoroji. Elphinstone also birthed institutions like Government Law College and Sir J. J. School of Art.
