Canadian colleges lay off 10,000 employees after sharp decline in Indian student enrolment
Posted
A sharp decline in Indian student enrolment has forced Canada’s colleges to lay off around 10,000 faculty and support workers. The federal government’s cap on international study permits has significantly reduced tuition revenue, especially in Ontario, where Indian students made up a large proportion of the international student body. The Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU) urges federal and provincial governments to increase funding to stabilise colleges and protect remaining jobs, as reported by the immigration.ca.
