The Ministry of Education is drafting a bill to establish the Higher Education Commission of India (HECI) as a unified regulatory body, as informed to the Lok Sabha. Envisioned by the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, HECI aims for a 'light but tight' regulatory framework, replacing the UGC, AICTE, and NCTE.
