North Carolina allocates $800M for schools and infrastructure amid US education funding standoff

North Carolina lawmakers have approved a $2.3 billion stopgap budget amid a continuing impasse over the state’s full $66 billion budget. The temporary measure includes $800 million for schools and infrastructure, $600 million for Medicaid, and funding for retirement benefits and state staffing. The General Assembly remains at odds over major spending decisions, while Governor Josh Stein urges passage of a comprehensive budget. Further mini-budgets may be introduced if no full agreement is reached.
