Illinois becomes the first US state to mandate mental health screenings for students

Illinois is set to become the first American state to mandate annual mental health screenings for students. Governor JB Pritzker signed the new law. It will affect students in grades 3 through 12. Screenings will begin in the 2027-2028 school year. The goal is to identify and address mental health concerns early.
