Why are rural students in the US skipping college despite increased recruitment efforts?
Posted
Despite graduating high school at higher rates, rural students in the US continue to enroll in college at significantly lower levels. In 2023, only 55% pursued higher education, compared to 64% of suburban and 59% of urban graduates, according to the National Student Clearinghouse. Economic alternatives, geographic barriers, and cultural skepticism are compounding factors behind this persistent gap.
