US considers fixed-term student visas: What the policy change means for international students
Posted
The US Department of Homeland Security has proposed fixed-term limits on student and exchange visitor visas, replacing the current “duration of status” system. This change could affect over 420,000 Indian students, the largest international group in US universities. The proposal, similar to a 2020 Trump-era rule withdrawn by the Biden administration, aims to cap visa durations to a set number of years. Public comments will be invited after the draft’s release.
