CBSE to introduce open-book exams for Class 9 from 2026-27 under NEP guidelines
Posted
The CBSE has approved the introduction of open-book assessments for Class 9 students from the 2026-27 academic session. The decision follows a successful pilot study and aligns with the NEP 2020 and NCFSE 2023, aiming to shift from rote memorisation to application-based learning. These assessments will be part of internal exams in core subjects. A similar model, OTBA, was previously introduced in 2014 but discontinued in 2017-18 due to limited impact on critical thinking.
