Indian-origin scientist Joyeeta Gupta has been honored with the Spinoza Prize, also known as the 'Dutch Nobel Prize', for her exceptional scientific contributions towards creating a just and sustainable world. The University of Amsterdam recognized Gupta's pioneering and inspiring research, and she will receive a grant of 1.5 million euros to support her scientific work and knowledge utilization activities. Gupta, a professor of Environment and Development in the Global South, plans to use the prize money to implement her ideas presented in her inaugural lecture in 2014, which focus on global sharing of the 'eco-space' and the need for a global environmental constitution. This constitution would protect environmental conditions worldwide in an equitable manner, bridging global environmental and developmental challenges. The official presentation of the award will be held on October 4.
