Parliamentary panel has suggested to reduce minimum age of contesting MPs and MLAs election to 18 yrs to encourage youth participation.

Currently, minimum age of contesting Loksabha MP election is 25 yrs while Rajya sabha is 30yrs

Election Commission opposed these recommendations stating that, " it is unrealistic to except 18-yr-olds to possess the necessary experience and maturity of these responsibilities.
