Kanwariya who died in car-hit gives new life to 5
Dehradun: A kanwariya who died after being hit by a car near Roorkee while heading towards Haridwar to fetch Ganga water has saved and transformed five lives through organ donation. Sachin Khandelwal, 25, from Mahendragarh in Haryana, met with an accident on July 22 and was admitted to AIIMS Rishikesh, where doctors said he had slipped into a coma. He died soon after, reports Shivani Azad.
After being approached by doctors, Sachin's family agreed to donate his organs. On Thursday, the Dehradun police facilitated a green corridor from AIIMS Rishikesh to Dehradun’s Jolly Grant airport to expedite the transportation of the organs. His kidneys, pancreas, and liver were transported to the Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Education & Research, Chandigarh, and the Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences in Delhi for transplantation. Two patients in Uttarakhand regained their sight on Saturday thanks to Sachin’s corneas.
