As of September 22, 2024, the Tirupati Laddu controversy has intensified. Recent tests confirmed that the ghee used in the prasadam contained animal fats, including beef tallow, lard, and fish oil, which has deeply offended the religious sentiments of millions of devotees. The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) has since taken corrective actions to restore the sanctity of the prasadam. They have switched to the Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) as the new ghee supplier and have promised to ensure that only the purest ingredients are used in the future offerings. The TTD has assured that the quality of the laddus has been restored in preparation for the upcoming Brahmotsavam festival, where they expect to distribute up to 8-9 lakh laddus daily. Amidst this, a petition was filed in the Supreme Court seeking a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the issue further, with pressure mounting from religious groups and devotees across India.
