Anyone who dares to defend India or point out that the Indian reality is different from how NYT and Economist project it is given a cold treatment and profiled as a right-wing fascist. But get up in class to speak negatively about India and you will be given extra time to speak and applauded. As a result, many Indians are fitting themselves into the required narrative. Recently, I heard about one post-doc from India who naively thought he was duty-bound to explain to explain to profs and colleagues that NYT and WaPo were publishing false narratives. Chap is now wondering why none of the profs are giving feedback as he applies for faculty positions.
