  • Significant Decline in Terror Incidents and Casualties in Jammu & Kashmir Over Five Years

*New Delhi*: The Home Ministry recently reported to a parliamentary standing committee that Jammu & Kashmir (J&K) has seen a marked reduction in terror-related incidents, encounters, and casualties over the past five years. The number of terrorist-initiated incidents in the region has dropped by 77% from 2018 to 2023, while civilian casualties have decreased by a notable 75%. The ministry attributes these improvements to its multifaceted approach, encompassing counter-terrorism operations, cybercrime control, border management, and disaster response.

According to ministry officials, thirty security personnel lost their lives in operations in 2023—a substantial drop from the 91 fatalities recorded in 2018. Terrorist-initiated incidents themselves have reduced to 94 in 2023, down from 417 in 2018. These figures reflect a significant decline in violence and a boost in security measures across the region.

However, recent months have seen a resurgence in terrorist activities, particularly in regions of J&K following changes in local governance. The ministry's report also revealed that there were no incidents of stone pelting or disruptions in 2023, marking a notable shift in public order. Civilian casualties have also seen a sharp decline, from 55 in 2018 to just 14 in 2023.

The abrogation of Article 370 in August 2019, which removed the special status of J&K, has been followed by substantial changes in the governance and security landscape. The Union Territory now operates under new central laws, impacting over 21 million people. Ministry representatives have highlighted developmental initiatives, such as the Village Programme, which aims to create self-sustaining and vibrant communities close to the borders, encouraging stability and reducing local tensions.

On the counter-terrorism front, a robust approach has been taken. Notably, 57 individuals and organizations have been designated as terrorist entities under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) since the 2019 amendment, targeting high-profile figures such as Dawood Ibrahim and members of Jaish-e-Mohammad.

The crackdown has also addressed Left-Wing Extremism (LWE), which has seen a 73% reduction in incidents over the last five years. The number of affected districts has fallen from 126 in 2010 to just 25 in 2023, showing the effectiveness of security measures and government efforts in countering extremism.

In a separate development, the Indian Army is set to test an indigenously developed light tank designed for high-altitude warfare, a joint project by DRDO and L&T. With superior mobility and firepower suited to the challenging terrains of areas like the LAC (Line of Actual Control), the tank project reflects India’s strategic emphasis on enhancing defense capabilities in high-altitude regions.

According to reports from European Pravda, as referenced by Ukrainska Pravda and Digi24, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova confirmed that initial claims have already been submitted.

  • S. Jaishankar’s address at the UN General Assembly, along with some important excerpts:

Global Agenda and Fairness: Jaishankar highlighted that the days of a few nations setting the global agenda are over. He stressed the importance of ensuring that global issues, like climate change and vaccine equity, are addressed with fairness:

“We must never again allow an injustice like vaccine apartheid to recur. Climate action cannot continue to evade historical responsibilities.”
Terrorism and Territorial Integrity: He emphasized that political convenience should not dictate global responses to terrorism and extremism:

“Nor must we countenance that political convenience determines responses to terrorism, extremism, and violence.”
India’s G20 Leadership: Jaishankar emphasized India's achievements in its G20 presidency, including the inclusion of the African Union as a permanent member:

“At India's initiative, the African Union as a permanent member of the G20 gave voice to an entire continent long overdue for recognition.”
UN Reforms and Security Council: He called for reforms in the UN, particularly in the Security Council, to reflect current global realities:

“The inclusion of the African Union in the G20 should inspire the United Nations to also make the Security Council contemporary.”
India’s Role in Global Leadership: He referred to India’s evolving global role from non-alignment to “Vishwa Mitra” (global friend), underlining India as a solution provider in international relations.

“Today, India is seen as a solution provider, one that bridges divides.”

At the recent United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), India’s External Affairs Minister S. #Jaishankar delivered a strong message, emphasizing that the global order is shifting away from the era when a few powerful nations dictated the agenda. He highlighted the importance of fairness in global issues, referencing both vaccine equity and climate action, urging that historical responsibilities must be acknowledged.

Jaishankar’s remarks included a call for the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to become more contemporary, reflecting the demographic and geopolitical realities of today. He pointed out that India's inclusion of the African Union in the G20 should serve as a model for UNSC reform. He also noted that political convenience should not guide global responses to terrorism and violence, a likely reference to the recent diplomatic tensions between India and Canada.

India's vision, according to Jaishankar, revolves around "One Earth, One Family, One Future," a theme that was central to its G20 presidency. He mentioned that India is seen as a solution provider and a bridge in global politics, especially in addressing the concerns of the Global South.

These statements reflect India's growing role on the world stage and its advocacy for a more inclusive and multipolar global order, particularly in areas like climate action, development, and international security(

    The President
    The Oxford Union Society

    RE: DECLINE LETTER

    Dear Mr. Osman-Mowafy,

Thank you for your invitation to grace the Oxford Union with my presence for a debate. Though it is every opinion-maker's dream to speak at the Oxford Debating Society, I find myself reflecting on the irony of your invitation, and after due consideration, I have decided to respectfully decline.

Your invitation to debate "This House Believes in an Independent State of Kashmir" is a direct challenge to India's sovereignty, and it is unacceptable to me. I find it not just obnoxious but offensive—not just to 1.4 billion Indians, but also as a humiliation of the hundreds of thousands of displaced indigenous Hindu victims of the Kashmir genocide of 1990. Framing it as a debate feels like turning a tragedy into a parlour game, where the stakes are human lives and the cost is in blood, not just ink.

Kashmir’s story is not a debate topic; it is a narrative of suffering, resilience, and a quest for peace. To reduce it to a 'yes' or 'no' on independence is to ignore the complex tapestry of human emotions and history involved. The genocide of Kashmiri Hindus is a story where the cost has been paid in blood, not in witty retorts or applause from an audience.

    Let us be clear:

More than 500,000 indigenous Kashmiri Hindus were victims of genocide by Islamic terrorism in the 1990s. Almost the entire indigenous Kashmiri Hindu population was forced to leave Kashmir, and since then, they have lived in exile. This was the latest and seventh exodus in their history. I am not even including the barbarity of the earlier six. This is not a debate; it is a historical tragedy.
In 2019, Article 370 was abolished, affirming without question the sovereignty of Kashmir. Kashmir has always been, is, and shall remain an integral part of India, civilizationally, culturally, and politically.
As long as hundreds of thousands of indigenous Kashmiri Hindus remain displaced from their homeland, unable to return due to threats from Islamic terrorists, there cannot be any debate on Kashmir's sovereignty.
In closing, my decision is not just a decline; it is a call for Oxford Union to step into the 21st century, where debates are about progress, not about reopening wounds for the sake of intellectual sport.

With a heart full of Bharat and a mind open for meaningful dialogue,

  • Home Minister AMIT SHAH:

Given the promises made in the National Conference’s manifesto, here are my 10 questions for the Congress and Rahul Gandhi:

    1. Does the Congress support the National Conference’s promise of a separate flag for Jammu and Kashmir?

    2. Does Rahul Gandhi and the Congress party support the JKNC’s decision to restore Article 370 and 35A, and thereby push Jammu and Kashmir back into an era of unrest and terrorism?

    3. Does the Congress support promoting separatism again by engaging in dialogue with Pakistan instead of Kashmir’s youth?

    4. Do the Congress party and Rahul Gandhi support the National Conference’s decision to start ‘LoC Trade’ with Pakistan, thereby nurturing terrorism and its ecosystem across the border?

    5. Does Congress support reinstating relatives of those involved in terrorism and stone-pelting into government jobs, thereby bringing back terrorism, extremism, and the era of strikes?

    6. The alliance has exposed the Congress party’s anti-reservation stance. Does Congress support the JKNC’s promise to end reservations for Dalits, Gujjars, Bakarwals, and Pahadi communities, thereby inflicting injustice upon them?

    7. Does the Congress want ‘Shankaracharya Hill,’ to be known as ‘Takht-e-Suleiman,’ and ‘Hari Hill’ as ‘Koh-e-Maran’?

    8. Does the Congress support the politics of pushing Jammu and Kashmir’s economy back into corruption and handing it over to selected Pakistan-supported families?

    9. Does the Congress party support the JKNC’s politics of discrimination between Jammu and the Valley?

    10. Do the Congress party and Rahul Gandhi support the JKNC’s divisive politics of granting autonomy to Kashmir?

  • "When I return to the Oval Office I will support Israel's right to defeat terrorism.

They must have the right to defeat terrorism... I will give Israel the support it needs to win... but I want them to win quickly... yes that would be nice.

We must let them win Fast... We will restore security and stability to Middle East. We will make sure that it will be peace out of strength..."

  • I am very upset with the situation in #Bangladesh , why terrorism, arson, murder, ****, looting in the name of student movement? The coup has happened, now why the violence? Hindus are being killed, temples are being burnt. The interim government and the Bangladeshi army should take effective steps immediately. Ensure the safe return of Indians and yes, there are 57 Muslim countries in the world. Sheikh Hasina neither sought refuge there nor did any country give her refuge, why is that? You must think about it…
