Kathmandu, October 29 — The Achyutram Bhandari Sangeet Pratisthan, in its 28th edition, witnessed a mesmerizing classical music performance by renowned vocalist Lavani Chakraborty, who presented Raag Bhimpalasi to a captivated audience. Supported by an ensemble of talented musicians, including Nagendra Neopane on tabla, Agraj Bhattarai on harmonium, and Umesh Raut on tanpura, Chakraborty’s performance was a beautiful homage to classical Indian music.

Lavani Chakraborty delivered both Vilambit Ektaal and Madhya Laya, and concluded her presentation with soothing renditions of Thumri and Bhajan, adding depth and spirituality to the evening.

Following the performance, senior sitar player Dr. Dhruvesh Chandra Regmi honored the artists on behalf of the Pratisthan, praising their dedication to preserving and promoting classical music.

Raag Bhimpalasi belongs to the Kafi Thaat, characterized by its intricate movements. With its Audava-Sampurna structure and the use of soft Gandhar and Nishad notes, it evokes a deep sense of longing and devotion. The raag's primary notes, Madhyam (M) and Shadaj (S), are key to creating its distinct mood.

The Achyutram Bhandari Sangeet Pratisthan, dedicated to preserving classical music, has been organizing monthly performances for the past 27 months, featuring prominent artists and musicians to keep the rich tradition of classical music alive in Nepal. Every 15th of the Nepali month, their hall in Gaurighat comes alive with soulful renditions of classical ragas, tabla solos, and instrumental performances, enriching Kathmandu's cultural heritage.
