India's revised consumption data, incorporating improved survey methods and capturing more actual spending, significantly impacted the World Bank's global poverty benchmark. This led to a more realistic poverty line and a lower poverty rate for India, even with an increased threshold. India's data revision reduced the global extreme poverty count by 125 million.
