In a significant move the Indian Army brought back 212 #Meitei Community Members who had fled #Manipur and taken shelter in Myanmar for the last three months in view of the ongoing ethnic violence in the state. Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh thanked the Indian Army for bringing back the people safely. The returnees were received by teams of the Indian Army led by commandants of the Assam Rifles and Gorkha Regiment at the border gates on Friday.

The Global #Manipur Federation (GMF), an alliance of non-resident Indians from Manipur, has pledged to address inter-community distrust and tension in the state. In a statement, the GMF expressed empathy for the recent wave of violent protests and orchestrated violence in Manipur, acknowledging the profound impact on the local population, including loss of lives, destruction of property, and displacement of people. The GMF called for prompt action from New Delhi, stakeholders, international bodies, and the media to de-escalate the violence and manage the crisis. They condemned the loss of lives and property and committed to working towards reducing inter-community distrust and tensions through collective efforts and solidarity among Manipuris worldwide. The underlying conflict arose from protests against the Meitei community's demand for Scheduled Tribe status.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has made an appeal to the people of Manipur to remove the blockades on National Highway-2. Shah emphasized the importance of lifting the blockades to ensure the delivery of essential goods like food, medicines, and fuel to the state. He urged civil society organizations to play a role in facilitating consensus and resolving the situation. The blockades were established following ethnic violence sparked by a protest against the demand for Scheduled Tribe status by the Meitei community.
