The Burtibang-Darbang-Muna-Jaljala-Dhorpatan road, considered an alternative to the Myagdi-East-West National Pride Mid-Hill Highway, is undergoing a project to open the route and enhance its development. The project is being implemented by the federal government for road construction and by the provincial government for development. The construction of the road connecting Beni to Darbang-Muna-Jaljala-Dhorpatan, extending up to Taksera in eastern Rukum, has progressed, and it is approximately 70 kilometers from the Baglung section of the Mid-Hill Highway, according to Prem Prasad Pun, the chairperson of Dhaulagiri Rural Municipality in Myagdi. The road development initiative is a joint effort between the federal and provincial governments, with plans to improve the road from Beni to Khoriya and from Khoriya to Dhorpatan. The Baglung District Office of the Road Division has advanced a three billion rupees project to connect the road that reached Dhorpatan three years ago with Jaljala. The eastern section of the Beni-Darbang road, 24 kilometers from the district office, has received blacktopping, and the Darbang-Dharapani road, 6 kilometers from Darbang, is undergoing graveling in the final phase of the ongoing project. Gandaki Province government has allocated a budget of 25 crores for the development of physical infrastructure from Dharapani to Takam, which includes the construction of a road connecting Shivang to Takam. The detailed project report (DPR) has been prepared by the rural municipality with an estimated budget of one billion for the 26-kilometer road from Darbang to Mareni, passing through the municipality. An additional eight kilometers of road from Taksera in eastern Rukum to Nisildhar is yet to be connected. Local authorities in Myagdi plan to utilize the road reaching Khoriya to connect with eastern Rukum, making it an alternative route for the Mid-Hill Highway in the Baglung section. Resham Punmagar, the vice-chairperson of Dhaulagiri Rural Municipality, emphasized the national significance of the road, as it benefits the residents of Mangala, Malika, and Dhaulagiri Gaunpalikas geographically and holds long-term importance. He also highlighted the road's potential for tourism development alongside transportation. The road, referred to as the 'Lifeline of Western Myagdi,' has become crucial for the region, with ongoing projects focusing on road opening, maintenance, improvement, and budget management for blacktopping and development plans.

Phungling: Despite discussions for more than a decade about constructing a cable car to the famous power center, Pathibhara, in Taplejung, the actual construction has not yet begun. The local residents, despite the passage of considerable time, have now demanded the commencement of work. In the coordination of the Pathibhara Area Development Committee, a comprehensive review conducted last month concluded that the cable car should be built not only for the Koshi Province but also as a prominent religious tourist destination for the entire country. The suggestion was made to expedite the construction process by creating a conducive environment, addressing legal hurdles, and simplifying the process. After active participation and feedback from local citizens, political leaders, representatives, religious and tourist stakeholders, the decision to proceed with the cable car construction was made. The local residents emphasized the importance of the cable car for the pride of the province, and after the suggestion from the committee, the process to start construction immediately was initiated. Focusing on this matter, investors and district representatives engaged in an interaction in Phungling on Friday. They acknowledged that although discussions about the cable car had been ongoing for a long time, actual construction had not started. They expressed their determination to make it a matter of pride for the province, urging the local and provincial governments to cooperate for the project's immediate advancement. In this context, Leeladevi Bokhim, a member of the provincial assembly, stated that the proposed investment in her backyard had successfully overcome local opposition. She emphasized the need to create an investor-friendly environment and suggested streamlining legal processes. The committee also engaged in discussions with local citizens, political leaders, and representatives, urging all stakeholders to participate in and support the cable car construction. The Muklumlung United Struggle Committee, however, has opposed the cable car project, arguing that it could compromise the Limbu community's faith and history. They suggested addressing concerns about cultural and historical preservation before moving ahead with the project. As per engineer Vijay Paudel, the cable car designed for the Kaflepati Dhadhele area will be approximately 2,700 meters high, extending to the Pathibhara region. He explained that the design ensures no structures around the temple entrance, allowing pilgrims and tourists to reach the religious site easily. The cable car will have 13 towers, and the journey from the main station to the final station will take approximately 10 minutes and 20 seconds. Rudra Paudel, the director of the cable car company, believes that the project will not only be profitable but will also promote tourism, create jobs, maintain environmental balance, and contribute to economic and social development. This marked a shift from the central government holding exclusive rights to this power before 2072. Despite this, many political leaders appear involved in the mining industry themselves, raising questions about conflicts of interest. In the 2079 local elections, nearly 200 out of approximately 8,300 elected representatives had direct or indirect involvement in mining and construction contracts, especially related to excavation of gravel and crusher industries. The Tikabhairav region, situated five kilometers beyond Lalitpur's Tikabhairav Bazaar, is illustrative of the issue. Most political leaders seem unaware of the inherent conflict of interest.
