The grand creation was unveiled during the celebration of Vivah Panchami, commemorating the divine wedding of Lord Ram and Sita in the Treta Yuga. The sculpture, designed for public viewing, stands majestically in the northeast corner of Rangbhoomi Maidan, constructed with approximately 70 quintals of rice and boasting dimensions of 120 feet in length and a height of over 91 feet. This awe-inspiring masterpiece was a collaborative effort, with the lead in construction headed by Satish Gujral, an artist from Madhya Pradesh, India. Gujral, known for his artistic prowess, previously led the construction of a 10,800 feet Sita-Ram sculpture in Ayodhya, India, last year. What sets this creation apart is the absence of any artificial coloring; instead, Jitendra Mahaseth, the President of Janakpur Industry and Commerce Association, revealed that 11 varieties of rice were carefully chosen for the sculpture. These are needed for declaring him a Poornavatara. Ram is best known as Maryada Rama or Maryada Purusha. This is because of a boon to Ravana. He was promised that no god would kill him. So Rama intentionally hid his 2 kalas and behaved like a common man (to fulfil the boon that Ravan would be killed by a man). Residents and organisations of the Borough were invited to submit the name of any person or group whom they believed might be eligible for the award. You will be pleased to learn that a Civic Recognition of Outstanding Achievement nomination put forward by the Mayor, Councillor James Hunt, was successful. The awards ceremony will take place on Saturday 14 May at 12pm at Bexley Civic Offices.
